The University’s student and employee insurance carrier provides several cessation programs.  You will need to contact GM Southwest or Florida Blue directly for the cessation programs available. 


University of Miami Leonard School of Medicine Partnership with STU Health & Wellness Center

The University of Miami Area Health Education Center Program (UM AHEC)supports this campus-wide effort by offering face-to-face counseling and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy on campus, every Thursday at 4pm.  UM AHEC offers to types of support groups for the convenience of the smokers.  One option, “Tools to Quit”, is an intense two (2) hour seminar where the participants receive information on how to prepare to pick their own quit date in order to be more successful. The other option,  “Quit Smoking Now,” contains similar information delivered over a six-week period. In the Quit Smoking Now program, participants quit the day of the third meeting.

FL AHEC

The Florida Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Network is an extensive, statewide Network of five AHEC Program Offices affiliated with the Colleges of Medicine at Florida State University, NOVA Southeastern University, University of Florida, University of Miami, and University of South Florida and ten community based, not-for-profit centers. This statewide Network is dedicated to improving the health of rural and other medically under-served communities, particularly through the treatment of tobacco dependency. The 10 Area Health Education Centers serve all 67 counties of the state and are governed by independent boards of directors who are knowledgeable and responsive to the communities they represent.
