Over the weekend, our Mock Trial Team competed in The 2009 Florida Justice Association: Honorable E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition. The competition, held at the Broward County Courthouse, is a state-wide competition open to every law school in Florida.

After fierce preliminary rounds, St. Thomas took home first place, beating University of Miami in the semi-final round and Florida International University in the final round. The winning team was composed of Chris Brown and Courtney DeBlis for the Plaintiff, Blake Stewart and Aron Gibson for the Defense, along with Maureen Taylor as a witness. Also, representing St. Thomas was William Roe, Ramon Crego, Aileen Penate, Scott Thaler, and Dwon Huggins. FJA presented St. Thomas with a plaque and a check for $1,000.

Last Spring, St. Thomas finished first place in the Nova Southeastern University School of Law, "My Cousin Vinny" Closing Argument Competition. This victory gives our team back-to-back first place victories.
