Associate Provost Receives Community Award

As an outstanding educator, a dedicated mother and an active member of the Hispanic Community, Dr. Susan Angulo is a proud recipient of the CNC 2010 Professional Mothers of the Year award.

Having earned her Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and a Masters Degree in Foreign Language Education, Susan Angulo was well prepared for her 40-year career. Presently, she is Associate Provost of St. Thomas University. Previously, she dedicated 20 years to developing bilingual and English as a Second Language education program in the public (FIU) and private schools of South Florida.

St. Thomas University offered Susan the opportunity of a lifetime, to develop an international education program in El Escorial, Spain. This 2+2 program offered Spanish students the opportunity to study English and the first two years of a BBA degree in Spain and continue their education in Miami Florida. More than 200 students entered the international business arena through this innovative program.

Her passion to educate children to be bilingual/multicultural and to participate in study abroad motivated her acquisition of federally funded grants amounting to 10 million dollars for her university.

Championing the Arts, Susan co-founded the Miami Latin Film Festival with her husband Jaime Angulo. For 10 years, they brought Spanish language films, directors, actors and producers to the South Florida market. After learning the business of Art, she was instrumental in establishing at St. Thomas one of the only Arts Managements Master’s Degrees in the U.S. She is equally proud of being a founding faculty member of the newly approve Doctoral degree in Education at the University.

Married 37 years to Jaime, she is mother of Andres Angulo and MBA graduate of St. Thomas University.

Affectionately referred to as, “la gringa mas Cubana que las Cubanas.” Susan explains, “I was busy learning the Cuban culture while my Cuban friends were learning mine. The history of Cubans in Miami is my history too”.

Dr. Susan Angulo’s rich contributions have educated and nurtured her family and the community making their lives and hers exceptional.
