Global Entrepreneur Award

St. Thomas University successfully held its first annual Global Entrepreneur Award Reception in which important members of the South Florida business community were honored for their entrepreneurial success. The event was part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which was celebrated in more than 100 countries during the week of November 15. St. Thomas University also held various entrepreneurship-related events during this week including, an opening reception, a student entrepreneur competition and an entrepreneur panel of experts.

The entrepreneurs who were honored Thursday, November 18 at the Global Entrepreneur Award Reception were:

• Student Entrepreneur: Mario Melton, MBA ’11 –President of Dolce Shot
• Small Business Entrepreneur: Liliam Lopez, BA ’88 President/CEO, South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
• Medium Business Entrepreneur: Don Dresback, BA ’69, Senior VP, Beacon Group
• Large Business Entrepreneur: Rafael Olloqui, 2 BA’s ’90 CEO of BTS
• Community Leader Entrepreneur: David Hernandez, CEO, Liberty Power and Alberto Daire, COO, Liberty Power.
• International Leader Entrepreneur: Manuel D. Medina, Chairman, Terremark.

School of Business Dean Tony Villamil also unveiled the St. Thomas University Institute for Global Entrepreneurship at the reception. The Institute seeks to foster a spirit and knowledge of entrepreneurship in the student and corporate community on a local and global basis.
