Johanssen Named Sun Conference Nominee for Prestigious A.O. Duer Award

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University women’s soccer student-athlete Emelie Johansson was named the Sun Conference nominee for the NAIA’s A.O. Duer Award presented by Daktronics in recognition of her superior academic achievement.  Johansson was nominated for the award with a grade point average of 4.00 through the Fall, 2012 semester.   On the soccer field, Johansson played center defense to lead one of the best defensive squads in STU women’s soccer history.  Last fall, she and the Bobcat defense shut out its opponents seven times, while allowing no more than one goal in 13 of the 17 games played.

Named in honor of the NAIA's former executive secretary who served the association for 26 years, the A.O. Duer Award has been annually presented since 1967 to a male and female junior student-athlete in any sport who has excelled in scholarship, character, and citizenship.  To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.75 (on a 4.00 scale).
