STU International Students Present Session at FILC
A group of six STU students and two advisors from the Office of International and Student Services recently participated in the seventh annual Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC), which was held at Camp Ocala 4-H Center in Altoona, FL.
FILC brings together international students and American students who have studied abroad and provides the opportunity to attend motivational leadership workshops, participate in networking activities and engage in open dialogues promoting international understanding while enhancing leadership skills.
STU has participated in FILC in previous years; however this was the first time that STU presented a session. The presentation “Translating Diversity into Success: A Kaleidoscope of Ideas to Enrich the U.S. Experience” was very well received by the attendees. The students gave a clear and focused presentation where they shared practice methods that helped them to adjust to their new environment in the U.S., while successfully becoming leaders without compromising their cultural identity.
The participants who attended FILC were: Session chair, Roberto Linares (Venezuela), Anna Williams (Gambia), Jiayi Wang (China), Didem Kiliç (Turkey), Cinthia Ramos (Honduras) Shantell Haynes (USA) and student advisors: Cristina C. López and Adriana C. Menke.
