Leadership Series

Students receive leadership training once every week. St. Thomas University faculty, alumni, and distinguished community and corporate leaders present to the students their life experiences and challenges to become leaders. The Leadership Series is based a program, which teaches students 21st century leadership and covers transformational leadership, learning organization, servant leadership, social capital and community engagement.


Workshops

During the twice a week two-hour workshop, students take the time to work on their electronic portfolio, and class assignments. In addition, students are trained on resume writing and the job application process. Students take the Myers-Briggs test to help them with choosing their right field of higher education. Finally, students are given the opportunity to complete two hours of community service.


College Courses

Students are enrolled in two communication courses such as COM 102: Society and Mass Media and COM 105: Speech. With the belief that a good leader must be an excellent communicator, students are introduced to successful and effective communication processes. Students earn six college credits.


College Preparatory Courses

Students take courses in mathematics and English to be ready for college courses. Students are placed in determined English and math levels based on their Accuplacer test scores. If the students’ scores are higher than those required for basic skill courses, students are placed in college courses and can earn more than six credits throughout the program.
 
Community Service Hours
 
Students complete 6 hours of community service with an organization. This is a major kill students should develop in their formation as leaders. The program highlights the importance of considering the sustaiability and well being of the world for the students to become leaders of the 21st century.
