You are here:   Academics » Meet the Provost

Entering the gates of St. Thomas University, as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs, I wondered: “What would be my greatest challenge?” After immersing myself in the culture of this new environment, diverse by nature,  I had to first answer a personal question: “How would my educational background, experience in academia, ethical and professional values fit into this new endeavor?” In order to learn more about the history and culture of Biscayne College/St. Thomas University, the students, staff, faculty and administration, I intensely delved into official documents, i.e., catalogs, faculty vitas, student-outcomes, Board of Trustees, Senior Staff, Faculty Forum minutes, and financial reports.  I became aware of the immediate need for “academic renewal.” As such, the development and implementation of the  Qualilty Enhancement Planning for Academic Renewals  (QEPAR) was born.  As a result, the University is thriving and our academic programs are achieving an even higher level of excellence.

Today, I proudly stand before you affirming that through dedication and devotion, we have fulfilled what we set out to do. The  “academic renewal” has positioned St. Thomas University to become a top tier institution and places us at a level of academic excellence consistent with the booming growth in our infrastructure accomplished through the tireless efforts of our President, Board of Trustees, Cabinet Members, Faculty and Staff.

Let us continue to work towards excellence and approach challenges and opportunities with courage.  It is up to us, the administration, the faculty, and the staff to accept the challenges before us by embracing change.

Gregory S. Chan, Ed. D.
Provost of the University & Chief Academic Officer
