The University Library is open to all enrolled students, faculty, staff, alumni and other students from Southeast Florida who are in possession of a valid SEFLIN card. However, Electronic research and Web access is limited to currently enrolled St. Thomas University students, faculty, administrators and staff. 

 

Government Documents

Access to depository publications is guaranteed by Title 44, U.S. Code.

Children

To maintain an environment of learning and for safety concerns, children are permitted in the library only if accompanied by a responsible supervising adult.

 

Borrowing

Current students, faculty, administration and staff as well as alumni and students enrolled in SEFLIN member institutions are eligible to borrow material.

 

Valid St. Thomas University identification cards are required to borrow books from the University Library. Other Southeast Florida students must have a valid SEFLIN card.

  • Students and Faculty have no limits to the number of items that may be check out.
  • There is no limit of number of times you may renew items, unless another user recalls the items.
  • All library users are responsible for returning or renewing items charged to their library cards on time.
  • No library user may allow another to use their personal identification card to borrow library materials
  • If another user places a recall on any charged item, the borrower will be notified by mail of the need for an earlier return.

Alumni

 

Alumni may present a current Florida Driver’s license or Florida Identification Card when borrowing books.

SEFLIN Members 

Members of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN) must present a valid SEFLIN card from their institution and a valid University picture identification card.

Reserves

Book, articles, videos and other material may be placed on reserve by faculty for courses offered at the University. 

 

Reserve Material at the Library

Reserves are located at the Circulation Desk. All materials on reserve are accessible for two-hours check out with a valid St. Thomas University identification. Material place on "Closed" Reserve may be used only in the library.

Electronic Reserve (e-Reserve)

Selected material may be placed on e-Reserve and are available on the Web via the Library’s catalog. Access to material on e-Reserve is limited to eligible students and faculty by user and password authentication. Material on e-Reserve may be provided in different formats including HTML (Web page), and in PDF format (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). Material is provided in compliance with copyright law of the United States.

 

Non-Circulating Material

Some library materials do not circulate and may not be borrowed from the library. The following may be used only within the library: all periodicals, reference works, 
microforms and maps as well as materials from the University Archives and Special Collections.

Books and other material borrowed can be returned at the Access Services/Circulation Desk located at the entrance of the library. If you wish to mail your book the address is:

Renewals

You may renew library materials in person by telephone (305) 628-6667 or by email <circ@stu.edu>. Telephone renewals for up to five titles are accepted. 
Overdue Fines & Lost Material

Overdue Fines

 

All library users are held responsible for payment of library fines. Non-receipt of overdue notices does not exempt the borrower from overdue fines.

Overdue fine for students, alumni and special borrowers: $.25 a day per item; once items have been overdue for thirty (30) days to a maximum of $5.00 per book.

Lost Book and other items

If books or other library items are not returned, the item (s) will be billed to the borrower as lost. Lost items are billed for the cost of the book. The average replacement cost of an academic book can range from $35.00 to $75.00.

Paying Overdue and Lost Item Notifications

If you have received a bill by mail or e-mail for an overdue fine or lost book or item, you may pay by cash or check at the circulation Desk. You may also send a check (please do not send cash) to the following address:

Recalls

A recall may be placed on material that is currently checked out. A recall request automatically shortens the current loan period to two weeks from the date of the request. Any user may place a recall request, and any book that is checked out by any user can be recalled. You must have a valid STU ID in order to submit recall requests.
Traces

Back to top

 

Missing items may be traced if the patron has checked the stacks and has verified in the library catalog (BOBCAT) that the item is not checked out to another library patron. Please see staff at the Circulation Desk to initiate a trace.
