Life experience portfolio credit
Organizational Leadership Program students may earn a maximum of 27 semester hours of credit for prior experiential learning by submitting learning portfolios to be evaluated by faculty in the respective disciplines. The 27 semester hours can be obtained by demonstrating that you have the equivalent university level learning derived from a number of different sources, including workshops, seminars, self-study, non-credit classes, training programs and/or work experiences. It is the prior learning (not just the experience) from these sources that must be documented. Faculty in the relevant field conducts evaluation, and an appropriate amount of credit is awarded
Alternative course credit
Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP, Credit by Examination and Military and/or Corporate Training (recognized by the American Council on Education) can be taken to receive academic credit. St. Thomas University accepts college credits from students who have studied in areas such as Police and Corrections Academies , Emergency Medical Services, Hospital Based Training and Fire and Paramedic Academy . A maximum of 45 semester credits are allowed for any of these alternative methods (individually or collectively). For further information, contact the Registrar’s Office at (305) 628-6537.
Pre-OL and evening studies programs
If the learner requires additional credits to complete the degree or to reach the minimum of 45 units required to begin in the Organizational Leadership program, one can receive these through the Pre-OL or Evening Programs. These programs offer the necessary “bridge” courses needed to complete the degree at St. Thomas University . This option should be discussed with Office of Continuing and Adult Education.
