CATHOLIC BIBLICAL SCHOLAR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Director: Joan Reisinger

We invite you to join us in the Catholic Biblical Scholar Program at St. Thomas University. This is a one year program that combines critical study, lively discussion, and an opportunity to work with some of the country’s top scholars in the areas of Historical Criticism, Biblical Theology, and Biblical Spirituality.

This series is for those who are familiar with the Bible and willing to undertake an exciting journey leading to a deeper knowledge of scripture through dialogue and study. Rooted in respect for each person’s interpretation, this program is designed to foster critical thinking in order to enhance one’s appreciation for scripture.

This certificate program utilizes a collaborative learning format. This curriculum consists of two units per semester, each unit addressing an area in Biblical Studies. All participants are expected to read background texts during the unit, some participants will research and present a topic related to that unit’s theme. Participants meet as a learning community on Monday evening to discuss the unit’s topic and to present their research for discussion. Each unit concludes with a Friday evening presentation by a noted Biblical Scholar (open to the public) and a Saturday round-table discussion with the Scholar. Participants must attend Monday evening sessions in order to participate in Saturday round table discussions.
