CERTIFICATE IN DEAF MINISTRIES

Seasoned ministers who wish to begin a new phase of ministry with the Deaf or those who would like to sharpen their skills will find this certificate program helpful. It includes four courses specific to this ministry taught by experts in ministering with the Deaf.

This certificate is offered as a 12 credit course of graduate study. It is recognized on the student's transcript.

The course can also be taken for enrichment for those who have significant pastoral backgrounds. In this case, the courses are audited and the participant receives a certificate of completion.

The program blends onsite and online segments to accommodate the busy lives of students. One Pastoral Skills course is offered each year beginning with a week onsite in June. Students work with the professor and other students to complete the course online by December. The four Pastoral Skills courses for the certificate are:

STM 685 Spirituality and Prayer in the Deaf Community (2011)

STM 551 Religious Education and Evangelization (2012)

STM 515 Deaf Studies (2013)

STM 665 Pastorial Ministries in the Deaf Community (2014)

All courses are taught in American Sign Language. Hence, applicants must demonstrate fluency in ASL.
