There are many clubs to get involved in at St. Thomas University. Clubs and organizations range in their goals from academic, social, athletic, and awareness raising. If you don’t see the right club for you, think about starting a new club. Also, since new clubs often form check out club fairs and visit the office of student activities to keep updated. Being a part of a campus club or organization can greatly enrich your experience here at St. Thomas.

 

Academic Clubs

 

Political Action Club
PAC is open to students of all majors. Meetings are a place for free exchange of ideas concerning current political issues; plan lectures, invite keynote speakers, and conduct campus-wide poles.

 

Psy-Chi Society
The Psy-Chi Society is a club for Psychology majors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, and who contribute to the world of psychology through research, forums, and case studies.

 

Delta Epsilon Sigma Honors Society
Members with a minimum GPA of 3.55, who display outstanding academic accomplishment through any major, dedication to intellectual activities, and have accepted responsibilitiy of service to others are encouraged to become members.

 

Cultural Organizations

 

Association of Latin-American Students
An international organization with a membership that includes countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. The club encourages academic excellence for the Hispanic community while fostering cultural harmony among other ethnic groups. This club sponsors cultural and social activities promoting the interest of Spanish speaking students within the University.

 

Haitian Coalition
The Haitian Coalition brings together students interested in the Haitian culture. It organizes events on and off campus to promote the tradition of their culture and island.

 

Bahamian International Club (B.I.C.)
The Bahamian International Club aims it’s activities towards engaging in making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate through community service endeavors. It also seeks to promote the uniqueness of the Bahamian culture within the STU community.

 

Black Student Union
The Black Student Union is a service organization, which is dedicated to the cultural enrichment of African Americans.

 

Caribbean Students Association
The Caribbean Students Association promotes awareness and understanding of the Caribbean culture through community service events, community projects, and social events.

 

Asian Student International Association
The Asian Student International Association was established to represent the Asian and Asian-American student body at St. Thomas. The club fosters a spirit of unity in service to the STU community and southeast Florida.

 

Special Interest Groups

 

Women United for Human Rights
The Women United for Human Rights mission is to make women aware of their power to change the world and to provide a untied voice so that all people are insured of human rights. As believers in equality, WUFHR is open to all students who share the same beliefs and interest in finding equality in a society for all people.

 

Fashion Club
The Fashion Club is a club for creative people interested in fashion. The fashion club is where trend-conscious students learn about style and fashion. Fashion club members follow the cutting-edge trends and their activities include various fashion shows throughout the year.

 

Bobcat Fan Club
The Bobcat Fan Club was formed to support the athletic teams and also promote school spirit through attending athletic games off and on campus and supporting the intramurals.

 

Student Ambassadors
The Student Ambassadors program is coordinated and sponsored by the Office of Admissions. The group consists of current STU students from various ethnic backgrounds and a variety of different disciplines representing the academic programs on campus: business, education, science, communication arts, social sciences & counseling, and pastoral ministries. Their primary purpose is to interact with prospective multiethnic students in order to acquaint them with the University and help them develop an awareness of STU as a school that can meet their educational, cultural, and social needs.

 

 

 

The Student Ambassadors reach out and make connections by:

  • Hosting group visits
  • Participating on student panels
  • Visiting high schools with admissions staff
  • Hosting admitted prospective students
  • Corresponding with prospective students via e-mail
  • Making phone calls to prospective and admitted students
  • Assisting admissions with receptions and workshops

Religious & Ministry Clubs

 

Voices of Praise
The Voices of Praise is an inter-faith group where students can share and express their view of all religions. This choir is made up of students who are gifted with beautiful voices and enjoy preaching the word of God in graceful melody.

 

Carpe Spiritum Singers 
Carpe Spiritum um Singers of St. Thomas University invites all students who love to sing to become an active part of this group. The Carpe Spiritum Singers perform at various functions throughout the year as well as lead the liturgical celebrations at the University. The members of Carpe Spiritum Singers are culturally diverse and are experienced in singing in many languages and four part harmony. Students who are interested in performing with the Carpe Spiritum Singers may call Maria Perez–Rudisill at (305) 628-6525, e-mail mrudisill@stu.edu, or stop by the Office of Campus Ministry and arrange for an audition/interview. Membership to this group is by audition.

 

Journalism Clubs

 

WSTU TV
A close-circut television station with students as achor personalities.

 

Driftwood
This literary and visual arts magazine publishes poems, short stories, essays, screenplays, and photography submitted by students, faculty, and staff.

 

St. Thomas Sentinel
The student newspaper, written, edited, designed, and published by students.
