Norbert Wiener Mathematics Contest

The School of Science at St Thomas University will host a mathematics contest on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at 10:00am, in the school of science building. The goal of the competition is to encourage students' interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in math.

Students from all majors are welcome to take part in the contest.

The contest will consist of three individual exams:
  • Algebra level - For students who haven’t finish Precalculus classes.
  • Precalculus level - For students who finished Precalculus but haven’t finish Calculus classes.
  • Calculus level - For students who finished Calculus (I and II).

During the contest, students will be given 60 minutes to solve 30 problems without a calculator.

Problems will cover a broad range of mathematics skills taught in Algebra, Precalculus, or Calculus (except for vector calculus) classes.
Registration for the 2014 contest is now open until October 25, 2014.
