Canvas Transition Project

About

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will replace Ember with Canvas by Instructure, as our new Learning Management System in May 2017. Canvas is the big sister of Ember and they both share very similar features. Take a look at what will change here.

 

Test-Drive Canvas

For a limited time, you can explore Canvas using this link: http://st-thomas-university.acme.instructure.com/
When asked to enter an Email, use our test account, wchang@stu.edu and at Password, enter AhPTGJjzUXhvVhKAH54t, then click Log in. After you are logged in, there are a few courses available, which you can use to test-drive Canvas. This link will only be available for a limited time so we encourage you to discover Canvas early.

 

Transition Timeline

 April 30, 2017: Last day to work on Summer 2017 courses in Ember.

 May 01, 2017: Canvas Migration Day.

 May 02, 2017: Faculty can begin working on Summer 2017 courses in Canvas.

 May 15, 2017: Canvas officially replaces Ember. Summer 2017 classes go live in Canvas.

August 15, 2017: Ember retires / goes dark officially.



Training

OIT will provide Canvas Training for instructors on the following dates:

Friday, April 7th 10 am - 12 pm - O'mailia Hall, Classroom 8

Friday, April 21st 10 am - 12 pm - O'mailia Hall, Classroom 8

Notes

Instructors are advised that Discussions, Assignments, Announcements, Profile, Assessment question banks and Ember Inbox messages are not transferable from Ember to Canvas courses. Please copy these and save for future courses that need them.

Students are advised to download all their assignment submissions in past and present courses by following the directions here.
