Steeve Simbert, a sophomore at St. Thomas University double majoring in Political Science, Global Leadership & Philosophy is a young Haitian man whom recently moved to the United States after his native land has been struck by the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

St. Thomas University commends Assistant Professor of the School of Theology and Ministry, Dr. Beth M. Stovell for her participation in the Spectrum Multi View book series, co-edited by Stanley E. Porter and her, Biblical Hermeneutics: Five Views brings readers into the heart of the debates within biblical interpretation by allowing proponents of five different approaches to engage critically in a public forum.

St. Thomas junior Omar Tejeira won the Sun Conference individual championship by a dominant six strokes at the three-round conference championships that concluded Tuesday at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville. Tejeira shot a two-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round to win the event. He shot scores of 72 and 73 in the first two rounds played Monday.

Students and faculty from the Institute for Communication, Entertainment and Media (ICEM) presented their academic research at the 81st Annual Convention of the Florida Communication Association that took place from October 13 to October 15 at the Four Points Sheraton Orlando Studio City.

This year’s program features Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and Professor Anita Allen, Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Friday, May 13, our former Biscayne College alumnus, US Ambassador to the Holy See Miguel Diaz, was honored at an intimate luncheon on campus prior to participating at the STU graduation as keynote speaker.

Thursday, May 12, the STU Institute of Communication, Entertainment and Media gathered faculty, friends and students to formally unveil the new addition to our campus entrance Sculpture Garden.

St. Thomas University’s Sardiñas Gallery inaugurated the opening show Disappearing Landscapes – paintings by Cristina de la Vega – Thursday, March 17, 2011 with a cocktail reception to meet the artist from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

This past Monday, March 7th, STU was honored by the visit of Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, President of the Vatican City State.

St. Thomas’ “Take the Campus Tour,” the online, interactive game that engaged South Florida high school students in a unique virtual road (STU4U) where they learned about academic degrees, our alumni success stories, and STU campus life, reached its exciting conclusion this month.

St. Thomas’ School of Science, Technology and Engineering Management held its first Regional Science Fair February 25 at its Carnival Cruise Lines Building, with approximately 200 high school students visiting our campus, taking tours, chatting with professors and Admissions reps, and interviewing with judges hoping to become finalists and win great prizes.

Journalism writing students at St. Thomas University have had the opportunity to address their concerns regarding human rights and immigration issues through an ongoing collaborative curriculum with United Press International (UPI).

Dr. Jodi Grace, Professor of Psychology, and her research students, Chip Timmons, Tiffany Smith and Kathryn Drumheller , presented the findings of their research “Choose Your Words Wisely: Methodological Challenges in Measuring Patient Deception in Medical Appointments” at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology held in San Antonio, TX, January 27-29.

February 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM (Kennedy Building, Room 201), St. Thomas and Miami-based non-profit FACES (Foundation Advancing Cultural and Economic Survival) are co-hosting a rare visit from a member of one of the world’s oldest cultures.

Expert panelists, university faculty members, economists and intellectuals from the United States met in Miami’s Hilton Hotel July 29-31 for the 20th Annual Conference of ASCE CUBA (Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy), co-sponsored by The Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies.

A distinguished group of visitors visited the St. Thomas campus July 28 to participate in a round table, interactive discussion on combating trafficking for labor exploitation purposes.

Monsignor Casale recently announced the appointment of Douglas E. Ray as Dean of St. Thomas University School of Law. Dean Ray is an experienced and highly regarded leader in legal education.

This year, the Bobcats showed they are not only athletic leaders but also academic leaders when they were honored by the prestigious 2009-10 NAIA Scholar Team Award.

St. Thomas University School of Science Professors Dr. Adrienne Vynne and Dr. John Abdirkin attended the Awards Luncheon at the University of Miami, School of Nursing and Health Studies Monday, May 10.

Director of St. Thomas University Counseling Program and Professor Judith Bachay, Ph.D., L.M.H.C. was one of two scholars who were awarded a Europe Follow on Fulbright for Slovenia and Bosnia this summer.

Electronic Media Master’s in Communication student Jonathan Sanchez starred in his first movie as the protagonist. The short film, Tierra Avocado, was recently successfully premiered at Miami Dade College North Campus.

St. Thomas University graduate student Andrej Milic was awarded the first place in Justice Administration at the State Leadership Conference Competition in Tampa.

St. Thomas University celebrated the “Year of the Priest,” with a week filled with events. The Most Reverend Archbishop John C. Favalora inaugurated the momentous occasion March 16 with a campus Mass followed by a Paella luncheon in Plaza Kelly.

STU Law Mock Trial Team won four trophies at this year’s Nova Law School Closing Argument competition. The competition, which was open to all Florida law schools, took place March 20th and 21st. After the first day of intense competition, 16 students advanced to the second day, 12 of those were STU Mock Trial members and member-candidates.

St. Thomas University joined the Miami International Film Festival for the first time as an educational partner, hosting on-campus screenings from the festival’s selection for Miami-Dade County public schools juniors and seniors.

The St. Thomas University School of Law Moot Court Team excelled at the 2010 South-East Super Regional of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which was held at Florida International University College of Law.

St. Thomas University is the winner of the 2010 Miami International Festival’s FLORIDA FOCUS STUDENT COLLEGE SOCIAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION for the STU documentary BLOOMING HOPE, which chronicles our social missions in Haiti’s poorest region prior to the recent tragedy.

South Florida high school students are participating the week of March 8 in media and film related projects that help prepare them for future career opportunities in the multimedia industry.

STU improves to 21-8 on the season and will represent the Sun Conference in the 2010 State Farm-NAIA D-II Women's Basketball Tournament.

A delegation from Moldova sent by the U.S. Department of Human Rights visited St. Thomas University for a dialogue with members of the Intercultural Human Rights Program regarding issues of human trafficking and human rights.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Army (Civil Works), Terrence “Rock” Salt, talked about the restoration of the Everglades National Park to students, activists and the legal community December 3 at the St. Thomas University School of Law Moot Court Room.

The Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in conjunction with the School of Business and Phi Beta Lambda kicked the week off with a Public Speaking Workshop.

The theme of the dinner was “Building Bridges for a Better Tomorrow,” and the Key Note Speaker was Dr. Wilbert “Tee” Holloway, a member of the Miami Dade-County School Board and a former Florida State Representative.
