FLORIDA RESIDENT ACCESS GRANT (FRAG)
This program is a non-need based grant funded by the State of Florida. The FRAG provides tuition assistance to full-time (12 credits or more per semester) students from Florida attending private, independent colleges and universities located in the state. A student must be a permanent resident of Florida (for other than educational purposes) for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the semester of enrollment. Dependent students eligibility is based on a parent’s Florida residency requirement. This program provides approximately $3000 per academic year, subject to state budget appropriations. The Office of Financial Aid assumes from the information you submitted on the FRAG application that you appear eligible. Final eligibility is subject to confirmation from the State Agency. If you are a prior year recipient, you must have earned 24 credits by the end of the Spring term and have a cumulative 2.0 GPA to maintain eligibility. To be considered for the FRAG students must submit the William L. Boyd, IV Florida Resident Access Grant Application to the Office of Financial Aid each year by the designated deadlines. FLORIDA STUDENT ASSISTANCE GRANT (FSAG)
The FSAG is a need-based grant funded by the State of Florida. This grant provides approximately $1500 per academic year to full-time students (12 credits or more per semester), subject to state budget appropriations. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for the FSAG. The Office of Financial Aid assumes from the information you submitted on the FAFSA that you appear eligible on the basis of financial need. Final eligibility is subject to confirmation from the State Agency. These funds are limited, students eligible for the FSAG have the right to be considered as long as funds are available. Priority is given to student who apply prior to the priority deadline of April 1st, 2008 for the 2008-2009 academic year.
FLORIDA BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Florida students who have earned a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship can utilize these funds at St. Thomas University. The Florida Academic Scholars, the Florida Merit and Vocational Gold Seal awards are estimated. They are based on full time enrollment per semester. The amount is determined by the type of scholarship earned and is equal to a percentage of the State of Florida tuition rate. Annual award amount is determined by the Florida Department of Education. In some cases the actual award amount will be pro-rated based on your actual enrollment status each semester. Students should contact their high school guidance counselor, the Office of Financial Aid, or the Bright Future’s Scholarship website at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org for more information.
FLORIDA PRE-PAID COLLEGE PROGRAM
While this program was designed initially for use at Florida public colleges and universities, these funds can be applied toward expenses at St. Thomas University. STATE GRANT PROGRAMS OUTSIDE FLORIDA
Students who are not Florida residents should contact their State Department of Education. Some states provide transferable state grants to students who qualify, based on financial need. Out-of-state students can use these grants to attend a college or university outside of their state. Students should contact their State Department of Education for further details, application procedures, and deadlines.
