Welcome to Health and Wellness! We are a Division of Student Affairs dedicated to promoting your health and wellbeing from the foundation of Catholic Identity guidelines for University communities. We base our work on the principles of Catholic Social Teachings; the care and dignity of the individual, attention to the needs of the marginalized and disenfranchised, respect for workers and the environment and promotion of peace and non-violence in our world. At St. Thomas University, we have the unique advantage of providing an intimate, wholistic family education model aimed at preparing leaders for life. Call on us to help you with your everyday stressors in being a college student or recent alum. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us - if we cannot help you directly, we will find resources for assistance.

The interdisciplinary Health and Wellness Center is located in a central, private and friendly location in the Student Center building, in the hallway near the Rathskeller. Evening hours are available, but only by scheduled appointment.

Thank you.

STU Health Advisory, H1N1

Dear STU community:

St Thomas University values the health, safety and well-being of all its students, faculty, staff and visitors. As you are aware, swine influenza illnesses have been confirmed in Mexico and in the United States. THERE HAVE BEEN NO CASES of swine flu at STU. The University is monitoring the situation in an effort to take any and all steps to prevent a swine influenza outbreak here.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides the following guidelines to help you stay healthy:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or cough into your sleeve.

  • DO NOT COUGH OR SNEEZE INTO YOUR HANDS.

  • Throw your tissue in the trash after you use it.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based cleaners are also effective.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

  • Practice good health habits such as: get plenty of sleep, exercise and eat nutritious food.

  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people.

  • If you get sick, the CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
