The Florida Association for Women Lawyers (F.A.W.L.) was established to assist women in the legal profession. The focus of the organization is the professional advancement of women lawyers specifically and the promotion of women’s rights generally. The St. Thomas University School of Law Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers was established around 1988. Membership in this organization is open to male and female students dedicated in meeting the goals of F.A.W.L. The student F.A.W.L. chapter is organized to provide a network of support and encouragement for law students. The focus is on career informational and networking activities that bridge the transition from student to lawyer. The chapter is also committed to meeting the state goals of F.A.W.L. and to promoting a general awareness of various women’s issues. The F.A.W.L. local chapter sponsors seminars and lectures of special interest to women students. There are a series of events planned by the board including fund raising for women’s charitable organizations and liaisons with the three South Florida County F.A.W.L. chapters. ---- [->rub551]
