A DOCTORAL DEGREE: WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
A Doctoral Degree where you will learn to:
* Develop a general level of competence in biblical, historical, ethical, liturgical and critical theology.
* Develop a general level of competence in the social and human sciences most relevant to practical theology; for example, philosophy, cultural studies, sociology and psychology.
* Develop an expertise in practical theology as a field of scholarship and practice, with a detailed grasp of the literature of practical theology, including classical and contemporary theology, socio-cultural analysis, and the methodology of practical theology.
* Engage in critical analysis of theological resources in light of their own socio-cultural location, and the needs of the local community, the church, and society;
* Envision transformative responses in the local community, the church, and society necessary for the 21 st century as a result of such critical analysis;
* Act decisively with systems as a change agent;
* Produce original research that focuses on identifying, refining, shaping, and directing knowledge, experience and new learning through theological study, pastoral service and action.
* Acquire professional and theological skills to be a theological practitioner in one or more of the following leadership positions in the church and/or community: teaching, research, administration, advocacy, and social action.
