St. Thomas University School of Law Moot Court Team Takes Home First Place in Statewide Competition


St. Thomas students beat out highly competitive teams from Florida’s top-ranked law schools to win the 2008 Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition

For the first time in the School’s history, St. Thomas University School of Law’s Moot Court competition team took home first place in the prestigious Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition, held June 18 and 19 at the Florida Bar Annual Meeting in Boca Raton.  

The St. Thomas team led by Therese Savona and featuring Lee Patten, Schuyler Smith, and Ryan Webb, beat out teams from some of the state’s top law schools including Florida State University, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, University of Miami, University of Florida, Stetson University, Florida International University, Florida A & M University and Florida Coastal School of Law (the winners of the competition for the last three years).

As winners of this year’s competition the, the St. Thomas team was honored to meet and have its pictures taken with the Justices of the Florida Supreme Court who also served as judges for the final round of competition.

The Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition is hosted by the by the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar and held each year at the Florida Bar Annual Meeting.
