The National Association for Law Placement (NALP) was organized in 1971 to promote the exchange of information and cooperation between law schools and employers. In order to advance those interests, the Association has developed these Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities.
 
The NALP Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities were first adopted in l978. Part V, Standards for the Timing of Offers and Decisions, was derived from Interviewing Procedures for Law Students and Prospective Employers, a set of guidelines originally adopted in the early 1960s by a group of law schools meeting under the auspices of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York . Subsequent modifications were adopted in 1985, 1988, 1992, and 1994.
