NEW HOME FOR BOBCAT ATHLETICS
Friday, April 25, St. Thomas University held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fernandez Family Center for Leadership and Wellness, the new home for Bobcat athletics, at STU’s athletic fields. The 62,000 sq. ft. multipurpose facility will house basketball and volleyball, intramural sports and a state-of-the-arts fitness and wellness center. Mike Fernandez, chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners and one of Florida’s healthcare tycoons, donated $3 million to St. Thomas to fund what will become the hub of student activity and leadership development. It is at this center that the School of Leadership Studies will offer specific classes and seminars in leadership training, including the Lead Now Experience, which kicked off in 2006, that develops high potential students. The creation of the leadership and wellness center will build an unprecedented opportunity for STU. The programs offered there will develop students’ leadership skills, mold their minds, shape their bodies and build their spirits.
