The Active Learning Program at St. Thomas University School of Law is offered to first year students for development of the basic legal skills and work ethic needed for success in law school and in the legal profession.

Each section of each first year course is assigned a successful upper level student to serve as an Active Learning Instructor (ALI). ALIs are trained in active learning methodology. ALIs prepare Active Learning Exercises for completion by and discussion with the first year students. Students must complete the Active Learning Exercises as a condition precedent to their participation in the program. Students who do not complete exercises or attend required meetings with their ALIs are not permitted to continue in the program. The strict participation requirement is designed to reward those students who are willing to put forth the effort with extra assistance from the Director and ALIs.
