FINANCIAL AID

The Office of Financial Aid recognizes that financing an education is an investment in your future. While the primary responsibility of financing your education rests with you, the Office of Financial Aid at St. Thomas University is committed to helping you meet your educational goals. To assist you with financing your education, we are pleased to provide you with as much information as possible. There are five basic steps in order to apply for financial aid at St. Thomas University.

  1. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA. You may access this form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need your U.S. Department of Education’s PIN. If you do not have a PIN, go to www.pin.ed.gov to apply. Our federal school code is: 001468.
  2. Complete a Federal Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN). You are only required to fill out the MPN once, unless you change your lender or school.
  3. Complete a St. Thomas University Federal Loan Request Form. Please complete loan request form online at www.stu.edu/faforms.
  4. Complete Online Loan Entrance Counseling. As part of the federal government’s initiative to reduce defaults on student loans, all borrowers receiving a Federal Stafford Loan for the first time must complete Loan Entrance Counseling. You may complete your Loan Entrance Counseling online at www.nelnet.net/counseling.
  5. Complete the STU Scholarship Application Form. If you are an undergraduate student, you may be eligible for several key scholarships offered by not only St. Thomas University, but the federal government and many other institutions.   • OPTIONAL: Federal PLUS Loan for Graduate/Professional Students. In some cases, it will be necessary for graduate students to apply for additional funds. However, students can only borrow UP TO the cost of attendance. Keep in mind that this loan is subject to credit approval by your lender and a 3% origination fee.
