St. Thomas Law volunteering in the community…

On September 29th, St. Thomas University School of Law partnered with Ferrell & Patel, Attorneys at Law, alumni of the school, to volunteer at the 2nd Annual Miami Children’s Hospital 5K Run/Walk. Students and attorneys worked side-by-side overseeing the Kids Fun Zone, where kids of all ages were dropped off by their parents to race through an over-sized bounce house obstacle course. In an effort to bring out more adults to support the cause, the Kids Fun Zone was added to create a child-friendly environment where kids could enjoy themselves before, during, and after the race. The event raised more than $450,000 for the children and families at Miami Children’s Hospital, more than double the amount raised through the inaugural event last year.

This St. Thomas Law Pro Bono Event was coordinated by Jennifer Portwood Gordon, Director of Pro Bono and Public Interest Career Counselor at St. Thomas Law. St. Thomas Student Bar Association President Jacqueline Bowden, and Student Bar Association Senator Ulyana Altbregen, also assisted with coordinating this event. In furtherance of St. Thomas Law’s mission to continuously be involved in the community, each month the school will partner with a different local organization in the community to give back and make a difference.
