FAQs

What is orientation and why are students (first-time and transfers) required to attend before they can register for classes?

Orientation is the jumpstart program that prepares you for the start of your academic career.  Students who attend orientation are retained at a higher rate than those who do not attend. The requirement that all first-time and transfer students must attend orientation presents St. Thomas University with the opportunity to enlighten students and theirs parents/guests on the mission, goals, and values of the University, as well as academic expectations, programs and policies.  Additionally, students and their parents/guests are exposed to the many university resources, and campus support services that have been designed specifically to promote student success, retention and the ultimate goal of graduation.

The primary goal of orientation at STU is to create an environment for students that minimizes anxiety and promotes positive student outcomes, independence, responsibility and a sense of belonging that will transcend throughout their college experience.

What is considered appropriate attire for the orientation program?

All guests should dress comfortably, as all orientation sessions require lots of walking.  It is recommended that you bring a sweater as some rooms maybe rather cool, and an umbrella in case of rains.
