Blake James, M.S. Sports Administration ‘94, Director of Athletics at the U
Growing up in Minnesota in the 1980s, Blake James watched the most dominant program in America make its way to national championships. The U became a brand recognizable from Miami to Mankato to Malibu. James bought in and decided to go to graduate school at St. Thomas University in South Florida, hoping to begin his career at the U.
In February 2013, the University of Miami hired James as the new Director of Athletics after more than nine years at the university.
Comprising 17 different sports, the UM Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is dedicated to developing and supporting the University’s 400-plus student-athletes. UM student-athletes have won 21 team National Championships, 71 individual National Championships, and earned 400-plus All-America honors.
James holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Minnesota State University - Mankato and a master's degree in sports management from St. Thomas University. He and his wife, Kelly, have two children, Haley and Ryan.
