STU Therapy Group: In Support of Our Vets
On November 8, US veterans (VFW post 8195) will be at the African American Research Library supporting and showing tribute to our Vietnam Veterans and OIF/OEF Veterans with a book written by the Vietnam vets. Edited by Bobby White, VFW Post 8195 Commander, the book reminisces the story of 23 black soldiers. The authors will be present for the signing, along with counseling graduate students and faculty from St. Thomas University. The event, to be held at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale, 2:00-6:00 pm, is free and open to the public. Veterans’ groups will also be displaying the documentary of the therapy group that was filmed by WLRN public television.
For years, counseling graduate programs at St. Thomas University’s Biscayne College have been reinforcing the University’s mission of developing leaders from all walks of life and creeds. This includes US veterans, and the University counseling programs have constantly shown tribute to the war veterans. A therapy group, developed and run by Leslie Brown, a St. Thomas Marriage and Family Therapy graduate, is being featured in the documentary and will bring to light great work that is done by the University’s students and faculty in support to the Vietnam, Iraq, and other US war veterans. There will also be food, refreshments, and entertainment by John Saxx. Assistance to veterans with PTSD needing to file claims will be provided.
