Founded in 1961, STU is a small, private institution of higher learning, sponsored by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami, and has offered graduate education in the area of healthcare administration for over two decades.

St Thomas offers two graduate options for health care professionals seeking to advance their education and develop competencies and expertise to effectively manage within the increasingly complex environment of the healthcare industry. Both our MBA-HM and MSM-HM programs prepare graduates for leadership and management positions in public and private health systems, hospitals, assisted living facilities, home care agencies, pharmaceutical companies, physician practices, management consulting, and other industries that supply materials or services to the health care industry.

While most MBA-HM and MSM-HM students work in the South Florida health care community, there are a number of international students in both graduate programs. Our HM graduate students work either in the management of direct patient care or in the management of financial or business aspects related to the delivery of healthcare services. Students work in the not-for-profit or corporate health care sector as nurses, pharmacists, occupational, physical and speech therapists, social workers, medical technologists as well as in the administrative and business departments. Graduates of the STU-HM programs have gone on to become CEO’s, COO’s and CNO’s of major health systems both locally and nationally.

Students interested in the financial and business aspects of health management are best served by the MBA-HM curriculum, while students who are committed to a management career path, either in a clinical area or business area, opt for the MSM-HM program.
