Reciprocity Guide

St. Thomas University School of Law’s Office of Career Services provides reasonable access of resources to students and alumni of other law schools on the following terms:

  1. Reciprocity privileges will be available only to other ABA-accredited law schools / NALP member law schools that allow reciprocal services to students and alumni of St. Thomas University School of Law.
  2. Requests for reciprocity must be made in writing by the career services/placement official of the requesting law school. Requests should be addressed to ageter@stu.edu, and may be sent via U.S. postal service, e-mail, or fax to (305) 623-2372; telephone requests will not be accepted. Walk-in request will not be honored. The student/graduate must wait to receive a copy of our response prior to contact the Office of Career Services. The individual MUST bring a copy of his or her letter when visiting our office.
  3. Reciprocal services are available for a period of three-months, beginning with the date of the initial request. Please be aware that no reciprocity will be granted between September 1st and Mid-November, due to the pressures of the on-campus interviewing season. Visiting students and graduates must check-in at the Career Services desk at time of each visit.
  4. Reciprocity privileges include:
    - use of resource library materials;
    - use of NALP publications;
    - use of job listing notebooks; and
    - use of materials published by the Office of Career Services.
  5. Reciprocity privileges do not include:
    - access to St. Thomas University ’s online job announcements
    - access to St. Thomas University ’s graduate Lexis / Westlaw passwords
    - career advising or counseling;
    - participation in job fairs;
    - participation in on-campus interviews; and
    - resume reviewing and/or referral
  6. When replying to employment notices listed with STU School of Law Career Services Office, applicants are required to indicate in their cover letter that they obtained the information through a reciprocal agreement between the applicant’s law school and STU.
  7. Further services may be denied to students or graduates of schools which are deemed to have surpassed a reasonable number of requests in a given year. No more than three consecutive reciprocity requests are granted to students or graduates of a given school until a STU student or graduate is granted reciprocity at that school.
  8. Reciprocity is a privilege extended to visiting students and graduates. The Office of Career Services reserves the right to terminate the exchange at any time by notice to the individual and to the requesting law school. Misrepresentation by the visiting student/graduate will result in immediate termination of present privileges and denial of future requests.
