The Honorable Peter R. Lopez

Judge Lopez was elected to the 11th Circuit Court in 1996, re-elected 2002 and 2009 without opposition.  Presiding in both the civil and criminal divisions, Judge Lopez heard hundreds of cases, including 1st degree capital murder cases, robberies, public corruption, medical malpractice, maritime/Jones Act, personal injury, and complex commercial/business litigation. Prior to taking the bench, he was a sole practitioner of a general practice that included civil, family, and real estate law. Judge Lopez is a member of the Education Committee and Teaching Faculty of Conference of Circuit Judges, and the Commission on Trial Court Performance and Accountability. He is currently District Representative to Circuit Conference of Circuit Judges. He recently received both the League of Prosecutors’ Justice Award and the Miami-Dade Justice Association’s Judge Steve Levin Award. Judge Lopez teaches Trial Advocacy Practice.
