Distinguished Alumnus/a Award:

The Distinguished Alumnus/a should be a person who has demonstrated exceptional skills in the
practice of law, has shown a lifelong commitment to professionalism and ethics, and has proven him or herself as a leader in the legal arena.
Criteria: Excellence in Practice of Law, Commitment to Professionalism and Ethics, Leadership
in the Law

Arête Award:

Arête is the Greek word meaning virtue, excellence, and reaching one’s highest human potential.
The Arête Award is granted to a graduate of St. Thomas University School of Law who embodies these traits through excellence in his or her field and dedication to public service, social justice, and citizenship.
Criteria: Excellence in his or her chosen career, with a focus on Public Service, Social Justice, and/or Citizenship

Outstanding Young Alumnus/a Award:

The Outstanding Young Alumnus/a should be a person who has graduated from the law school in the past 7 years, and who has shown a commitment to professionalism, ethics, and service to
St. Thomas University School of Law.
Criteria: Commitment to Professionalism and Ethics, Service to the School of Law, Graduation within the past 7 years

Outstanding Jurist Award:

The Outstanding Jurist award is given to a member of the judiciary who has made a significant impact through his or her dedication to justice, ethics, and the law.
Criteria: Current or Retired Judge, Dedication to Justice, Commitment to Ethics

Dean’s Award of Distinction:

The Dean’s Award of Distinction is granted to an individual who is not a St. Thomas Law graduate, or to a law firm, corporation, or group with a demonstrated commitment to ethics and professionalism, and to advancing the profession or serving the community.
Criteria: Non-graduate Individual, Firm or Group, Demonstrated Commitment to Professionalism, Commitment to Public Service or Advancement of the Profession.

Please note: It is not required to give each award every year.
