Two-Year J.D. Program

Beginning May 2015, St. Thomas Law-Miami will offer an Accelerated Two-Year option that allows the student to graduate sooner. A limited number of highly motivated students will be able to enroll in this Two-year J.D. Program.

Students in the Two-Year J.D. program experience the same rigorous course load and have the same opportunities to participate in special programs, like externships and clinics, as well as extra and co-curricular activities.

Two-year Program Schedule:

  • 1st semester (May-August): 12 credit hours
  • 2nd semester (August-December): 15 credit hours
  • 3rd semester (January-May): 15 credit hours
  • Summer semester (May-August): 12 credit hours
  • 4th semester (August-December): 18 credit hours
  • 5th semester (January-May): 18 credit hours

*All regular JD graduation requirements in effect for the traditional JD program apply to the two-year Program.

Admission to the Two-Year Program is designed for students who are self-motivated, diligent, and industrious. Applicants to the program should be able to demonstrate those traits.

The application process requires the same information and uses the same online LSAC form as admission to the traditional J.D. program. Once you have submitted a completed application, send an email to Silvia M. Velazquez, Admissions Advisor at indicating your interest in the two-year program.

Applicants to the two-year program may be selected for a 10 to 15 minute personal interview. This interview will be conducted in person for local applicants or via video chat for distance applicants.

Applicants will receive a decision on their applications by April 1st. Applicants not accepted into the two-year program who also expressed interest in the traditional three-year program will be considered separately for the three-year program.

Applicants will be notified of their interview via e-mail.

Please make note of the following important dates:
February 1, 2015 – Priority Consideration Deadline
