Professor John Toohey-Morales received a BS in Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University in 1984 and continued his education in advanced meteorology at University of Miami in 1988. Professor Toohey-Morales has worked professionally as a meteorologist since 1984 and is currently the Chief Meteorologist for Telemundo 51 and for WTVJ NBC 6. He is also an Associate with Cilmatological Consulting Corporation in Palm Beach, FL and is President and Chief Meteorologist for ClimaData Corporation in Miami, FL.
Professor Toohey-Morales occasionally works as the weather Anchor for the NBC Today Show. Professor Toohey-Morales is a member of the American Meteorological Society (Commissioner on Professional Affairs), National Weather Association, National Council of Industrial Meteorologists (President), and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists. He is accredited by the American Meteorological Association as a Certified Consulting Meteorologist. Professor Toohey-Morales has received awards from the USA Department of Commerce (Silver Medal Award) for Outstanding Warning and Forecast Services, Hurricane Hugo, WSFO San Juan, September 1989); the Emmy Award (Suncoast Region) for Information Oriented Programs, 1993; the National Weather Association Broadcaster of the Year Award, 2003; and the American Meteorological Society Award for Outstanding Service by a Broadcast Meteorologist, 2004.
