Counselors

St. Thomas University’s (STU) School of Theology and Ministry, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Miami, invites youth and young adult ministry leaders, as well as graduate students who are studying theology or related fields (age 21 and up), to apply for a one week stipend position as a counselor at STU IMPACT, a Youth Theology Institute, June 16 - 24, 2016. Counselors will gain and enhance ministry skills in leadership, supervision, evangelization, small group facilitation, service learning, and worship skills. As a counselor you will walk along-side high school youth as they explore their call to service, as well as have an opportunity to discover, or re-discover your own call to service. The position provides a $500 stipend and at minimum requires attendance at Leadership Training on May 21, 2016 and a residential commitment for the week of the program, June 16 – 24, 2016.

Length of Position: Saturday, June 16 – Sunday, June 24

Status: Stipend Position

1. Grow in youth ministry and leadership skills
2. Be a role model/mentor to high school youth exploring theology, service, and the call on their lives
3. Provide supervision to high school youth attending STU IMPACT
4. Enjoy the experience and build enthusiasm for theological study and youth ministry

Position responsibilities:

1. Share your Catholic faith and love of God and theology with high school youth
2. Specific supervision of 7 – 8 youth
3. Ability to work with a team
4. Small group facilitation
5. Create an atmosphere of trust for institute participants
6. Engage youth in free time experiences
7. Chaperone youth for on and off campus experiences
8. Reside on the campus of St. Thomas University for the entire program, June 16 – 24, 2016

Requirements:

1. Youth and young adult ministry leaders, as well as graduate students who are studying theology or related fields, must be at least 21 years of age
2. Prior leadership experience in youth ministry
3. Ability to enjoy mentoring high school youth while enforcing rules
4. Must complete a thorough background check and present virtuous certificate

1. May 21, 2016, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
2. June 16 – 24, 2016 (Summer Institute)
