Record Attendance at Theology & Ministry Lecture
The School of Theology and Ministry hosted a lecture and book signing event for Sister Helen Prejean, C.S.J., author of Dead Man Walking
and The Death of Innocents: an Eyewitness Account of Wrongful Executions
(2004), last week, discussing how the death penalty is regarded by the faith community as one of the great moral issues facing this country. Guests lined up to buy both books and filled the Chapel of Saint Anthony. Sister Helen shared her own journey of conversion and challenged everyone to take a step against capital punishment, to recognize that God is in the victim as well as the perpetrators. The need to open our eyes and see others with compassion; human dignity does not depend on what they’ve done in the past.
