Student Achievement 

In its Policy on Institutional Obligations for Public Disclosure, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requires that institutions publish "statements of its goals for student achievement and the success of students in achieving those goals." Federal Requirement 4.1 (Student Achievement) requires institutions to disclose such information during the Fifth-Year Interim Report and the decennial reaffirmation of accreditation. 

The disclosure below is intended to satisfy SACSCOC policy requirements in between routine compliance certifications. This information is updated during the fall term of academic year. (Current information updated during the 2017-18 academic year.) 


Retention Rates

The University monitors first-year and average undergraduate retention rates as a measure of the success of its undergraduate program. Since 1995, the University has maintained afirst-year Fall1-to-Fall2 retention rateof 60% or greater. In addition, the University establishes thresholds and targets for average undergraduate retention rate. This institutional performance indicator is noted below.

Graduation Rates

The University monitorsundergraduate graduation ratesas a measure of success of its undergraduate program. Since 1995, the University has steadily increased its four-, five-, and six-year graduation rate to 35%, 36%, and 44%, respectively (as of IPEDS 2017-2018 reporting cycle).  The target 6-year Graduation rate is 45%.

Degree Completions


 St. Thomas University closely tracks degree completions at various levels: bachelor's, master's, doctoral (professional practice/other), and doctoral (research/scholarship). The total number of degrees awarded per active program demonstrates a commitment to student achievement, as reflected in the University goals to support undergraduate and graduate/professional education.

 Since 2012, the number of degrees that St. Thomas University awards annually has remained relatively steady at approx. 700 total degrees conferred annually. Graduate degree completions have increased by over 50% during that time. These totals include degrees awarded both to traditional and online students.
