About the St. Thomas University Library

Our Mission

 

The St. Thomas University Library embodies the Mission and Vision Statements of St. Thomas University as a physical and virtual center where students, faculty, staff, and the greater community engage and collaborate in learning, teaching, and research.  The Library serves the learning community through a circle of services that help faculty, staff, and students transform into information fluent professionals and ethical global leaders.

Our Vision Empowers:

  • Creating an information and technology rich learning environment where the academic, spiritual, intellectual, and psychological needs of our community are supported and networked with other St. Thomas University programs.

The University Library fosters learning for our entire community with information resources, space, and support services that empower students to become life-long leaders. The 50,000 square foot building offers a wireless learning environment with networked seminar rooms, group study rooms, and personal study areas.

The Library houses over 215,000 print resources and 696 print magazine, journal, and newspaper titles. The building contains four computer labs and is the center for a virtual library providing access to over 275,106 full-text journals, magazines, and newspapers in digital format and 229,497 e-books.

The Library provides online interlibrary loan and document delivery request forms for receiving material from other libraries in Florida, the United States, and from around the world. For distance students, the University Library also provides full-service reference assistance through e-mail or telephone and provides books via the US Mail. Reference and research assistance is available in person at the reference desk and via telephone and e-mail.  In-depth assistance is also available by appointment.

The Library’s Information Literacy instruction program teaches students how to conduct effective research using both electronic and print resources is also available by appointment for all undergraduate and graduate classes.

Students may play media on the first floor of the library in the Reference area or in the fully equipped Study Rooms. Study Room One is also equipped as a gaming lab with a 3D television and Xbox 360 Kinect system. The Library also provides popular movies and documentaries, as well as New York Times Best Sellers in fiction and non-fiction for student’s reading and viewing pleasure.

The wireless café is on the first floor and offers coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The University Art Gallery is on the second floor, as well as the John C. Favalora Archive and Museum.

The University Library also serves as a Government Documents depository library.
