Ricky Claudio, MLB Player

Ricky Claudio was selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on June 8. Claudio was drafted in the 27th round the Seattle Mariners. Claudio was previously selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins in the 34th round.

The Miami native was selected as a right-handed pitcher, though he excelled for the Bobcats on the mound and at the plate. Claudio appeared in 14 games on the mound for the Bobcats, throwing 20.1 innings with 29 strikeouts. At the plate, Claudio hit .375 with a .538 slugging percentage and .469 on-base percentage.

In 2012, Claudio appeared in 8 games on the mound for the Bobcats, throwing 10.2 innings with 10 strikeouts. Claudio transferred in from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla.

Claudio became the third Bobcat in the previous two years to be selected in the MLB Draft, joining Joel Capote and Dane Stone who were both taken in the 2012 draft.

A total of 37 NAIA players were drafted over the course of the 2013 MLB Draft, representing 24 NAIA baseball programs and going to 23 different MLB teams.
