MASTER OF ARTS IN CRIMINOLOGY

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with the following required coursework or equivalents:

  • A completed and signed university Application for Admission
  • Official college and/or university baccalaureate transcripts from the institution where the degree was conferred
  • Personal statement describing the applicant’s professional goals and interest in the desired degree
  • Professional Resume
  • Graduate applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 will be required to submit a statement justifying the grades received and demonstrating how the applicant has progressed professionally since graduation

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss the nature and extent of crime and criminal behavior on a national as well as a comparative and international level
  • Identify, explain, and assess various methods of crime prevention, including especially international efforts
  • Apply various crime theories in explaining crime
  • Use various etiological theories of crime to create practical programs for preventing or controlling crime and its negative consequences
  • Undertake original empirical research regarding various forms of crime and criminality, their correlates and consequences

Graduation Requirements

The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program requires a total of thirty-six (60) graduate credit hours. For graduation, students need to earn a B or better in every course and attain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
