Summer 2016: Summer Research Institute
Dr. Gurvirender Tejay will supervise students for research in Cyber Security for Summer 2016. Current students accepted for Summer Cyber Security Research include: Yasshin Lozano, Javier Rojas, and Eric Covach. Students are expected to complete an individual research project in cyber security and present the project at the SRI Symposium.

February 2016: Cyber Security Management discussed in Groundhog Day celebrations with the Miami Dade STEM initiative
St. Thomas University hosted students from Sunset Sr. High School (Magnet) as part of celebrations for the Groundhog Day. Dr. Gurvirender Tejay gave a talk titled “Arrival of Spring for Cyber Security? Developing CyberPatriots and CyberWarriors”. Dr. Tejay engaged students on cyber security challenges and made them aware of career avenues available in cyber security management. The students from Engineering and Information Technology Academies visited the campus on February 2, 2016 as part of the partnership of the School of STEM with the Miami Dade STEM initiative.

January 2016: Catholic Education Continuum and Cyber Security
Dr. Irma Becerra, Provost of St. Thomas University, hosted Principals and Counselors of high schools in Miami-Dade County to explore opportunities for collaboration under the Catholic Education Continuum (CEC). The CEC initiative developed by St. Thomas University aims to foster educational and spiritual growth for Catholic High School graduates. As part of agenda, the efforts of St. Thomas University are to engage high schools for better cyber security education. Dr. Gurvirender Tejay presented and discussed potential areas for partnership including workshops on cyber security careers, and security skill development for teachers. The event was held on January 25th, 2016.

The CEC program is committed to Developing Leaders for Life and embracing a vision of lifelong learning. The program provides an opportunity for Catholic High School students during the critical formative high school and college years. The CEC program offers students’ full scholarships (valued at $100,000 per student), reduced tuition scholarships, dual enrollment, involvement in the Career Academies and exposure to industry leaders. The initiative also offers professional development opportunities for high school faculty and staff.

January 2016: Gus Machado School of Business hosts Cyber Security Careers and Resume Clinic
St. Thomas University hosted an event on Cyber Security Careers and Resume Clinic for general public. The event was held on January 14th, 2016. Dr. Gurvirender Tejay presented information on jobs in cyber security, top employers, in-demand security skills and industry certifications in cyber security. Attendees were also provided guidance on improving their resumes with respect to security skills.

May 2015: St. Thomas University and Women in Executive Leadership held an event on Cyber Security for Business
St. Thomas University hosted an event on cyber security for business in collaboration with Women in Executive Leadership. The event was held on May 6th, 2015. The panelists included Maria Cordo, senior managing director, Crystal & Co., which has offices in Miami and Palm Beach; June Adams, Former Chief Ethics and Privacy Officer of ADT Corp.; Ricardo Johnson, Director of Security, CrowdStrike, based in Irvine, Calif.; Sean Patton, Senior Director, Global Risk Management, Brightstar Corp. in Miami; and Dr. Somnath Bhattacharya, Dean of the School of Business, St. Thomas University.
