Community Partners

The ideal community-engaged learning partnership is mutually beneficial.  Activities should be a collaborative development and application of knowledge[1] focused on consequential public issues that allow St. Thomas University students to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for real-world problem-solving with local civic, nonprofit, and Archdiocesan partners.  STU’s Center for Community Engagement cultivates these partnerships to foster learning, service, and work opportunities for students.

The Center seeks to support the education and social justice mission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami [ADOM] while providing learning opportunities for students, faculty, and staff in partnership with Catholic schools, parishes, and nonprofits.

Catholic Relief Services carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States (USCCB) to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas by cherishing, preserving, and upholding the sacredness and dignity of all human life, fostering charity and justice, and embodying Catholic social and moral teaching.  They do this through  1) promoting human development—  responding to major emergencies, fighting disease and poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies; and 2) serving Catholics in the US— supporting their efforts to live their faith in solidarity with brothers and sisters worldwide.  CRS works with local, national and international Catholic institutions and structures, as well as other organizations, to assist people on the basis of need, not creed, race or nationality.
