FURA Code of Conduct

The Florida Undergraduate Research Association (FURA) is committed to providing an environment that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas with equal opportunities and respect provided to all participants.

It is the policy of the FURA that all participants, including students, faculty, campus administrators, attendees, vendors, volunteers, and all other stakeholders at FURA events will conduct themselves in a professional manner that is respectful and welcoming to all participants and free from any form of discrimination, intimidation, harassment, or retaliation. FURA is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all participants. Creating a supportive environment to enable discourse at FURA meetings is the responsibility of all participants.

Participants will treat each other with respect and consideration to create a collegial, inclusive, and safe professional environment at FURA events. Participants will avoid any inappropriate actions or statements based on individual characteristics such as: age, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, nationality, political affiliation, ability status, educational background, or any other characteristic. Disruptive or harassing behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Harassment includes but is not limited to: inappropriate or intimidating behavior and language, unwelcome jokes or comments, unwanted touching or attention, offensive images, online threats, real or implied threat of physical harm, physical assault and stalking. FURA will not tolerate harassment or discrimination of any kind at any event or on social media platforms (Twitter, conference chat functions, etc.). FURA reserves the right to exercise judgment and act appropriately in response to unacceptable behavior, including removal of participants from the event without prior warning or refund of the registration fee; contacting of event security or local police; and notifying participant’s sponsoring college or university. FURA also reserves the right to prohibit attendance in any future FURA events, in-person or virtual, should the need arise.
