Call for Workshop Proposals
The 2023 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC) organizers invite faculty and staff to submit proposals for Workshop presentations during the conference that will be held at St. Thomas University (STU) in Miami, Florida. Each Workshop presentation will last for 45 minutes. Past conference Workshop topics have included the following:
- Pathway to graduate school and career success
- Innovative methods to conduct quality research with little-to-no-funding
- How to target a journal
- Securing good letters of recommendation
- Building an effective resume – planning your research roadmap
- Summer research experiences
- Ethics, Institutional Review Board (IRB) process
- Navigating through challenges and building your path to success – graduate school and beyond
- Playing to your strengths: Knowing all of your options when applying to graduate school
- What students need to know about intellectual property
- Building academic relationships
- Funding your graduate education
- Managing an academic journal
Other areas of interest include how to sustain research during pandemic and post-pandemic times and promoting multidisciplinary research. We welcome proposals on other relevant topics of your choosing. We encourage proposals that will apply to students from all majors. There will be two Workshop session blocks on February 18th, with 5-10 workshops running simultaneously during the blocks.
Workshop Proposal Format
Each Workshop proposal (maximum one-page) must include the following items:
- Title of the Workshop
- Workshop presenter(s) name(s), institutional affiliation(s), and contact information
- Description and scope of the Workshop
- Rationale of the Workshop: Why will the topic be important and interesting to conference attendees?
Proposals should be in Times New Roman 12-point
Create Your Oxford Abstracts Account:
Click on the button below and create your account using your official university email address. This portal will be where you submit your abstract and, if needed, edit or resubmit your abstract.
Write & Review Your Abstract:
Abstracts, summaries, and creative statements may be up to 250 words in length. Once you write your abstract, summary, or creative statement, take time to review it and ensure that your co-authors and faculty member are able to review it and provide comments. We also recommend making use of your institution’s Writing Center, if possible. Make sure to start in a document, and not on the application form.
Collect Co-Presenter Information:
Before submitting your abstract, make sure to preview the application and collect the information you will need from any co-presenters.

*Applicants who submit before the final deadline will receive a decision early, on a rolling basis, beginning in September.
