Dear Inauguration Delegate:

On behalf of President David A. Armstrong, and the Inauguration Steering Committee of St. Thomas University, I am pleased to send you information about your visit to St. Thomas to celebrate the inauguration of David A. Armstrong, J.D. We look forward to welcoming you to the St. Thomas campus for this historic event. Delegates and ceremony participants should arrive by 12 p.m. with their own academic regalia.

Inauguration Day Schedule of Events

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

10:00 AM – 11:15 AM: Holy Mass

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Platform Party, Delegate and Faculty Staging
Location: Fernandez Family Center (FFC)

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Installation Ceremony

2:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Inauguration Reception

Inauguration Day Transportation and Parking

Shuttle Transportation to Campus
A complimentary shuttle (Academy Bus) for guests staying at the Margaritaville Beach Resort and Marriott Hollywood Beach Hotel will be available to take guests to and from St. Thomas University on Wednesday, March 20. Please plan to be ready in the lobby of your hotel at the following times:

  • Marriott Hollywood Beach: please meet at the hotel lobby at 8:00 a.m. Departure is at 8:15 a.m.
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort: please meet at the hotel lobby at 8:15 a.m. Departure is at 8:30 a.m.

The shuttle will arrive at St. Thomas in time for Holy Mass at 10 a.m. The shuttle will return guests to the hotel after the Inauguration Reception. The departure from campus is at 4:30 p.m. from the Fernandez Family Center.

Parking on Campus
Guests attending Holy Mass should park in Lot 10, located near the Chapel of Saint Anthony. We will have parking attendants to assist you with parking.

Guests arriving later in the day for the Installation Ceremony should park in Lot 1, located next to the Fernandez Family Center. We will have parking attendants to assist you with parking.

Holy Mass
If you are attending the Holy Mass, the most convenient parking is directly across the Chapel of Saint Anthony in Lot 10. During Mass, platform party members and delegates can leave their regalia with the designated STU staff worker.

Immediately following Mass, platform party members, delegates and faculty will have a shuttle (Academy Bus) waiting for them outside of the Chapel to take them to the Fernandez Family Center.

If you cannot make the Holy Mass, and are driving to campus, please click here for driving directions. The most convenient parking is located directly next to the Fernandez Family Center, in Lot 1.

Please look for the “Delegate & Faculty Robing” sign outside of the Fernandez Center or ask a staff member to direct you to the Delegate & Faculty robing area.

All ceremony participants (delegates, faculty and platform party members) should be assembled at the Fernandez Family Center no later than 12:15 p.m. to prepare for line up. Each robing area will have light refreshments. We will have racks with hangers for you to leave your jackets; and we will have a security guard to stand watch during the ceremony in case you want to leave any personal items.

STU staff workers will be available to help you find your place in the procession. The first call to line up will be made at 12:40 p.m.

Installation Ceremony
The installation of President David A. Armstrong, J.D. will take place in the Fernandez Family center at 1 p.m. Guests not participating in the ceremony should plan accordingly to arrive on time. The gym doors will close at 12:57 p.m. to begin the processional. Guests arriving after this time must wait in the lobby until the processional is done at approximately 1:10 p.m.

After the Installation Ceremony, STU staff workers will lead the recessional out and to the robing area.

Inauguration Reception
Following the Installation Ceremony, all participants and guests are invited to the Inauguration Reception taking place on the STU Soccer Fields next to the Fernandez Family Center (see map).
