J.D. Hernandez

J.D. Hernandez is an Academic Success Professor at St. Thomas University College of Law. Professor Hernandez is originally from Los Angeles, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law, and recently joined St. Thomas University College of Law as an Assistant Professor of Academic Success in 2022.

Professor Hernandez passed the Uniform Bar Examination with scores high enough to practice across dozens of jurisdictions and later passed the Florida bar. Before joining the Bobcat family, Professor Hernandez worked for the Iowa Department of Revenue focusing on indirect tax (sales tax and property tax). After a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case was issued, Professor Hernandez focused primarily on sales tax and was recruited by Deloitte in the San Francisco Bay Area. At Deloitte, he worked on transactional and compliance work assisting national and international conglomerates navigate the evolving landscape of e-commerce tax obligations.

Currently, Professor Hernandez facilitates the Bar Prep Skills II class, which provides a review and overview of Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and assists students in preparing for the Multistate Bar Exam. Additionally, Professor Hernandez teaches Essay Writing for the Bar Exam which provides the fundamentals required for structuring, drafting, and conquering the essay portion of the Bar Exam.
