Michael Mayer
Adjunct Professor of Law

While in law school, Michael Mayer received the best in class award for Trial Advocacy Practice. He was also president of Moot Court. Mr. Mayer worked for the Honorable David M. Gersten at the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami, Florida, and was an intern at the office of the Public Defender in Miami, Florida, in the appellate and felony divisions. Since graduating from St. Thomas University School of Law, Mr. Mayer has been an assistant public defender in the office of the Public Defender in Miami, Florida, where he has represented indigent clients in every phase ranging from the initial arrest to the appeal. He has been lead counsel on numerous jury trials ranging from misdemeanors to major felonies and has also argued in front of the Third District Court of Appeal. In 2009, Mr. Mayer became a coach for the St. Thomas Mock Trial team and has led the team to championship victories in the 2011 Chester Bedell Florida State Mock Trial Competition and in the 2011 American Bar Association National Criminal Mock Trial Competition. Currently, Mr. Mayer is faculty advisor for the Mock Trial team and teaches Trial Advocacy Practice.
