Message from the Director of Public Safety

Welcome to our new Public Safety Department website and thank you for affording us this opportunity to speak with you. My name is Ronald Foster, Director of Public Safety and Captain of Security at St. Thomas University. I think that you will find a great deal of useful information here. Allow me take a few moments to give you an introduction to campus safety.

Your Public Safety Department is located in Lewis Hall and is comprised of dedicated security personnel who are focused on the delivery of quality security services to all people within our community. Our service delivery model is ’community based’ which we seek collegial and inclusive solutions to security problems for our campus that best meet the needs of the large and diverse community we serve.

Security awareness and crime prevention are traits which serve to protect individuals and the community as a whole. When all members of the community learn and practice these traits, a safer living and learning environment is created. As a member of the St. Thomas community you have a special relationship with the University. The Catholic tradition of education embraces the concept of "cura personalis", that is, the concern for each person within the community. I encourage you to join us in our efforts to provide a safe and caring environment in which living, learning, and working can take place most productively.

I can assure you that our security department will always remain totally committed to the timely delivery of security services in a professional and sensitive manner, treating all persons with the utmost respect and absolute fairness.

Mission

The Department of Public Safety at St. Thomas University is responsible for providing physical security on campus. G4S Secure Solutions personnel patrol the campus in order to provide security to all campus personnel. The Department of Public Safety is also responsible for enforcing campus traffic and parking regulations, registering vehicles, enforcing all campus policies and procedures, and most importantly, providing immediate emergency assistance as required. All Public Safety Officers are radio equipped and centrally dispatched.

St. Thomas University’s commitment to improve and maintain the highest level of campus safety has resulted in a closer relationship between the Wackenhut Corporation and the Miami Dade Police Department.
