St. Thomas University partners with JED Campus

JED Campus is a nationwide initiative of The Jed Foundation designed to help colleges and universities enhance emotional well-being and mental health promotion efforts, reduce substance abuse, and prevent suicide among students.

JED campus is an 18 month program which includes assessment from a JED Campus Advisor and forming an interdisciplinary task force that includes Student Health, Student Affairs, Athletics, Academics, Academic Enhancement, Student Success, Law Administrators, Residential Life, Public Safety, and students to address mental health and well-being efforts.

JED Campus programs are grounded in our Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention for Colleges and Universities and for High Schools. These evidence-based models can be used to assess efforts currently being made in schools, identifying existing strengths and areas for improvement.

JED Campus Strategic Planning

The strategic model guiding the assessment is a consolidation of factors known to help in promoting emotional well-being, preventing suicide, and limiting substance use. The model, developed by The Jed Foundation and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, focuses on seven strategic imperatives within the following domains:

  • Develop life skills
  • Promote social connectedness
  • Identify at-risk students
  • Increase help-seeking behavior
  • Provide substance misuse and mental health services
  • Follow crisis management procedures
  • Restrict access to potentially lethal means
